OVERALL win contenders Absolute Racing have undergone an overnight gearbox change after a quiet opening day at the Meguiar’s Bathurst 12 Hour.

The Porsche team discovered an issue and made the change overnight ahead of Saturday’s action, which will be headlined by the Pirelli Pole Battle.

Defending winners Matt Campbell and Ayhancan Güven are sharing the #911 with Alessio Picariello, with Campbell getting behind the wheel for the closing minutes of Practice 5.

With Campbell behind the wheel, the #911 sat 13th with two minutes remaining on Saturday morning with a best of 2:04.3320s, some 0.6s down.

In the final minute, Campbell, who had been fitted with new tyres, improved to seventh with a 2:03.8870s, only 0.19s behind Cam Waters’ session-best time of a 2:03.6930s.

The #183 Jamec Racing/Team MPC Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II also suffered gearbox issues earlier on Friday.

The issues prevented Bronze-rated Liam Talbot from setting a time in the Practice 2. However, Broc Feeney set the second-quickest time in Practice 3.

Feeney returned on Saturday morning to set a 2:03.7340s, which proved good enough for third behind the #222 and #77 Mercedes-AMG entries.

Saturday's first session also featured the first stoppage of the weekend, as Paul Bucchini crashed the #25 Method Motorsport McLaren across the top of the Mountain.

Cars will return to the track for Practice 6, which will set the fields for Q1 and Q2, at 10:35am local time.
