THREE-TIME Formula 1 Grand Prix race winner Giancarlo Fisichella has his sights set on a LIQUI MOLY Bathurst 12 Hour drive should the opportunity present.

The 49-year-old Italian will return to Australia to compete in the S5000 Tasman Series races at next week's VALO Adelaide 500, however says he would love to compete at Mount Panorama.

"Absolutely, absolutely yes," he told a group of Australian journalists earlier this week when asked about the potential of a 12-Hour appearance.

"It is one of the most important races in the world in one of the best circuits in the world

"I’ve never had a chance to go there but if there is a possibility, I would enjoy, it would be nice."

Fisichella started 231 Grands Prix for seven different teams across a career that spanned 14 seasons, winning three races and scoring 19 podium finishes.

On retiring from F1 he switched his attention to Sports Car and GT competition, signed as a factory Ferrari pilot competing in key FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA events.

He has twice won the Le Mans 24 Hours in the LM GTE category driving for the Prancing Horse, with four other podiums in the around-the-clock epic.

In America he has twice won the Petit Le Mans race for Ferrari and has also stood on the podium of the Daytona 24 Hour.

Bathurst remains a missing item from his lengthy racing CV.

While the brand is yet to have any confirmed representation in the 2023 race as yet, the upcoming debut of the all-new Ferrari 296 GT3 could return the brand to Mount Panorama in force in 2024.

Ferrari teams have twice won the 12 hour: claiming their first win in 2014 with Craig Lowndes, Mika Salo, John Bowe and Peter Edwards and again in 2017 with Lowndes, Jamie Whincup and Toni Vilander.
