BATHURST 12 Hour organisers have been quick to heap praise on outgoing supplier Michelin, following today’s announcement that Pirelli would become the sole tyre supplier and a major partner of the event for the next three years.

While the parity and competition realities of current top-level motorsport made a switch to a single tyre supplier the most logical step to ensure the events continued growth, Michelin’s role in the evolution of the race has not been forgotten.

The French brand was involved from the first running of the race as a GT-based affair in 2011 and continued to support the event, and teams within it, thorough to this year’s race. Cars shod with Michelin tyres won five of the past six Bathurst 12 Hour races.

“Pirelli are going to be a fantastic partner and have already begin activating their involvement locally and internationally, but it would be remiss of us to not recognise the role Michelin played in the growth of the event,” Event Director John Casey explained.

“They backed the concept from day one and through their efforts on track and especially off it, they helped grow the race to where it is today.

“We recognise that and everyone involved is very thankful that we have had the chance to work with them over the last six editions of the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour.”
