CARS competing in the Porsche Wilson Security Carrera Cup Australia Championship will be added to the eligibility list for the 2019 Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour.

Entries for the 2019 race open this week, with the addition of the current 991.2 generation GT3 911 Cup cars the key change to otherwise consistent regulations in place for the event next year.

It is the first time that current-specification cars competing in Australia’s top one-make category will be eligible for the race during their usual lifespan.

“Porsche is excited to provide its Carrera Cup customers the opportunity to race their latest generation 911 GT3 Cup cars at next year’s Bathurst 12 Hour,” said Troy Bundy, Porsche Cars Australia Motorsport Manager.

“In contrast to Carrera Cup’s tradition sprint and endurance formats, this initiative will enable our customers to experience their 911 GT3 Cup race cars in a full endurance setting – including pit stops, co-drivers and providing more racing laps in their 911 race car separate to their Carrera Cup campaigns.

“Porsche has been the best-represented manufacturer in the past six Bathurst 12 Hour events and this announcement will no doubt further boost the brand’s presence at the Mount Panorama sports car enduro.”

Minor changes have been made to the structure of Class A (for GT3 vehicles) regarding the allocation of drivers within the class, based on the FIA driver categorisation system.

Class A will continue to be split into three sub-categories: Pro, Pro/Am and Amateur.

Professional Class vehicles will now be limited to a maximum of three ‘seeded’ drivers, holding either a Platinum or Gold ranking.

Pro/Am competitors will allow for two ‘seeded’ drivers and either one or two additional bronze-ranked drivers.

Should a Pro/Am competitor wish to add a Silver ranked driver, they must replace one of the seeded drivers.

The Amateur class will be open to only Bronze-ranked drivers for the first time.

The modification to the class structures are designed to assist competition within the Pro/Am and Amateur classes and bring the classes more in line with other international GT races.

No changes will be made to either Class C (GT4) or Class I (Invitational) regulations for the race next February.

The vehicle eligibility list remains consistent with updates to accommodate cars homologated for the 2018 model year GT3 and GT4 vehicles the only major changes.

An additional 45-minutes of track time for Bathurst 12 Hour competitors will be added to the 2019 schedule, spread across practice and qualifying sessions on Friday and Saturday.

Qualifying on Saturday afternoon and Sunday’s race will retain the same format as in recent years.

A fourth support category will also join the program to create a packed four-day schedule of on and off-track action, the additional day of on track action on Thursday, 31 January set for support category sessions.
