YOUNG DRIVERS GET CHANCE WITH MOTORSPORT LEGEND

YOUNG Bathurst drivers have the chance of a lifetime to hone their skills behind the wheel with a motorsport legend. As part of the lead-up to the 2012 Armor All Bathurst 12 Hour Race, V8 Supercars star Craig Lowndes is inviting learner locals to take part in a free driver training session.

The official charity partner of the Bathurst 12 Hour Race, the Australian Road Safety Foundation, will stage an on-track driver training program for Bathurst pre- learner and learner drivers this Friday.

Up to 30 Bathurst school student drivers will be able to take part in the foundation’s program, which will run from 8am to 1.30pm at Harris Park and on the famed Bathurst racing track.

Valued from $295 per student, the free program will include a meet and greet with Lowndes; a session in the Australian Road Safety Foundation road safety simulator; braking demonstrations and in-car experience on the Bathurst track.

Australian Road Safety Foundation chair Russell White said the driver safety organisation chose to focus on young driver education in its inaugural role as charity partner of the Bathurst 12 Hour.

“We are calling on Bathurst school students to take up this rare and valuable opportunity to complete expert learner driver training on one of Australia’s most famous roads,” Mr White said.
