FANS OF THE Armor All Bathurst 12 Hour have the opportunity to get the best seat in the house by volunteering as an official at the 2012 Event.
The call has this week gone out to rally officials and volunteers to the spiritual home of Australian motorsport for the three day (February 24-26) Event – one that has quickly established itself as a ‘can’t miss’ date on the motorsport calendar.
And an expanded field of international GT vehicles gives volunteers an opportunity to rub shoulders with noted international drivers and stunning supercars taking part in the Event.
There are two types of volunteer positions sought; CAMS accredited officials to assist with circuit operations and general volunteers to assist with Event operations such as grandstands, corporate suites, the media centre, information booths and the accreditation centre.
Either way, both offer the best seat in the house as part of a large team dedicated to ensuring the smooth operation of the three-day Event.
“Our volunteer officials on the track and behind the scenes are the backbone of the Armor All Bathurst 12 Hour Event,” Event Director James O’Brien said.
“Without them, none of the action on or off the circuit could happen. Volunteering at Bathurst really does get you closer to the action than ever at places where paying spectators can’t access.
“We make sure our officials are looked after and have a great time. For some, it will be their sixth straight Event and they just keep coming back!”
Volunteer Manager and Bathurst veteran Robert Stanley – nicknamed ‘Ned Kelly’, for his long beard – has been a volunteer at the Event since its inception and says it’s a great way to get ‘up close and personal’ with the stars of the show.
“It’s just a great way to get involved in motorsport,” he said.
“You can meet your favourite drivers and get up close with the cars. It’s a fantastic way to get involved in the sport and you can progress further into it the more you do.
“Each year I come back I catch up with old friends and meet new ones. I spend a week there and it’s fantastic.”
I volunteer all the time for this and other races. It’s awesome fun, the people you meet are great & we are lucky enough to be part of the proceedings of the race weekends. If you are a race/car enthusiest you just must volunteer…. best fun you could have on Race weekend.
